In 1996, Justice David
Medina was appointed by then-Gov. George Bush to fill a
vacancy on the bench in the 157th district court in Harris
County. He was elected in November of that year and then
re-elected in 1998. As judge of the 157th court, he resolved
more than 5,000 cases and in 1996 he was voted one of the top
jurists in Harris County. Before his stint on the bench,
Justice Medina worked as a litigation lawyer for Cooper
Industries, a worldwide manufacturer of electrical products,
tools and hardware. After he left the 157th district court,
Justice Medina returned to Cooper Industries as their
associate general counsel. His stellar reputation as a
judge led Governor Perry to appoint Justice Medina as his
General Counsel. And now, with his expertise and
experience has been appointed to the Texas Supreme
Court. Justice Medina received his undergraduate degree
from Southwest Texas State University before moving on to
receive his law degree from South Texas School of
Law.
In the past four years, South Texas
Republicans has been honored to host the following Texas
Supreme Court Justices at our events:
Chief Justice
Wallace Jefferson, Justice Dale Wainright, Justice Scott
Brister and Justice Paul Green.
Lets
give Texas Supreme Court Justice David Medina A STRONG SOUTH TEXAS GRASSROOTS

| More Fraud Uncovered In 2004
Elections |
More and more reports are
emerging of the extent to which Democrats were willing to go
to try to influence the 2004 election.
Well, their tactics worked in Washington State.
Our Republican candidate for Governor, Dino Rossi, actually
won the election. Then he won the recount.
Then Democrat-controlled King County "found" 566 new votes
just in time for the second recount, enough to overturn the
results of Election Day and the first recount.
The new result? Dino Rossi "lost" by 129 votes. But
consider the following facts in Washington state;
- 943 felons illegally voted
- 49 dead people voted
- 3 people voted in Washington and another state
- 2 illegal aliens voted
- 12 people voted multiple times
- 174 provisional votes were counted but later found to be
cast people who had already voted or were unregistered
Also, at least another 1,600 ballots are still in
question:
- 875 more absentee votes were cast in King County than
there were absentee voters
- 95 more ballots in King County and 50 ballots in Whitman
County were "found" after both recounts, and have never been
counted
- At least 660 provisional ballots were improperly counted
in King County.

| May 7th 'Smooth
Election' Not So Smooth In San Antonio |
The May 7th election has been
dubbed as a Smooth election. When in fact, there are several
irregularities and violations with serious consequences. We
believe we have sufficient evidence to cause the annulment of
three District races and will be requesting a new election due
to improper testing, program errors, and breakdowns. A 5% to
7% error ratio could have drastic results for both voters and
candidates and we believe our Election Administrator Mr.
Borofsky is well aware of these irregularities says Fred
Rangel, former candidate for City Council in District 7 and
current Chairman of the Coalition for Voter Integrity.
Mr. Rangel believes there
is sufficient evidence to cause the annulment of three
District races and will be requesting a new election due to
improper testing, program errors, and breakdowns. Here is some
evidence he points to:
a. Molly Ruiz
(former VP National LULAC) presses English button,; screen
goes to Spanish. Fortunately, see reads both. But what about
those who cannot read Spanish? They are forced to continue in
an unknown language? This is a violation of the I Federal
Voting Rights Act.
b. Vivian M. Voted for
uncontested District 1 Councilman Roger I Flores. The
councilman's name was not on the list. After voting; for
propositions, and punching the review button, Roger Flores;
name appears. (1st Name on the ballot)
c.
Polling Location Coke Stevenson (District 7) 3 out of 6
machines locked up (Were Votes Lost? We don't know, we are
still waiting for an answer) People walked away lines too
long. This too is a violation of the Federal Voting Rights
Act., impeding the right to vote.
d. As per
Rick Zamora, the Polling location of Jefferson High School,
long lines ensued because the E-Voting Machines were not
working for at least 20 minutes. This is a violation of
election law.
e. Many voters complained to Mr.
Jim Valdez a candidate that they could not find his name on
the ballot (1st name on the ballot)
f. At the
poll at Nichols Elementary on Braun Road, election officials
forbade voters from bringing campaign literature to the voting
booth, clearly violating the law by infringing on the rights
of voters to make informed decisions.
All told, Rangel points to
significant irregularities in City Council Districts 1, 4, 7,
and 9.
Cynthia Test, another
candidate for City Council in District 7 has filed a lawsuit
against Noel Suniga to contest the election results. We have
requested a county judge from outside Bexar County as required
by law, and we are seeking consultation with an expert on the
computer program used in the calculations of these votes,
says Test. According to Test, the law requires that a lawsuit
be brought against a candidate, though she feels it is the
county and city that needs to be held accountable.
South Texas Republicans
has attempted to make contact on more than one occasion with
Suniga regarding this issue, but our requests have not been
returned.
To read more
on this issue, log on to http://www.sanewspaper.com. For the Cynthia Test Article,
click on the 'San Antonio' Link on the main webpage and click
the link 'politics'.
Thanks to Cynthia Test,
Fred Rangel, and Rodolfo Macias of SANewspaper.com for their

| The Republican Party of
Texas |
Tina Benkiser,
Republican Party of Texas Commentary Posted On Monday, May
16, 2005 in the Austin-American Statesman.
A few days ago, I decided
to conduct an experiment. I went to my local video store and
selected a couple of videos. I carried them to the counter to
check out, and the following exchange occurred:
Store clerk: "Are you
ready to check out?"
Me: "Yes"
Clerk: "That will be
$8.75. May I see your I.D. please?"
Me: "I don't have my
identification."
Clerk: "I'm sorry, but I
can't rent these videos without picture
identification."
Me: "I have a copy of my
water bill with me. You can see my name and address on the
envelope."
Clerk: "I'm sorry, but I
can't rent you a video based on your water bill
envelope."
Me: "Why not?"
Clerk: "Our policy is for
your own protection as well as the protection of other
customers. We have to be 100 percent certain that you are who
you say you are. This policy protects our business, our
customer's security and prevents theft and fraud in our
stores."
I thanked the clerk and
left.
Now take the same scenario
and replace the video store with a Texas election site and the
store clerk with a poll worker. The results would be
completely different.
Under current law, I can
walk into any voting site in Texas, give a name and show any
official document bearing the name and address I just gave
yes, even a water bill envelope and as long as the name I
gave is on the register, I can cast a ballot. Obviously, this
lack of security at voting sites opens the door to voter fraud
and identity theft and ultimately works to undermine the
integrity and security of our election process.
A bill now under
consideration in the Texas Legislature would help
significantly reduce corruption at the polls and ensure the
credibility and integrity of our elections. House Bill 1706,
authored by House Elections Committee Chairman Rep. Mary
Denny, R-Aubrey, and passed in the Texas House, would require
photo identification at the time of voting to verify the
voter's identity and reduce fraud and abuse in the election
process.
At first, second and even
third sight, this appears to be a slam-dunk piece of
legislation. After all, national polls show that 82 percent of
voters, including 75 percent of Democrats, support using
government-issued photo identification at the polls. And
should it really be more difficult to rent a video of "Forrest
Gump" than to participate in our election process?
The great majority of
Texans say no, but 11 Texas Democratic senators say yes. In a
move similar to what is playing out on the national stage with
our federal judges, Democrats are aggressively using
subversive maneuvers in the Texas Senate to thwart the will of
voters for secure, safe elections.
In the Texas Senate, with
rules more onerous than even those in the U.S. Senate, any
bill must have two-thirds approval to be moved to the floor
for debate and a vote. This means that as few as 11 senators
can band together to prevent a bill from even being
considered. This is what these 11 Texas Democrats have opted
to do with House Bill 1706. House Bill 1706 is a fair,
common-sense piece of legislation. Its passage would further
secure our electoral process and ensure the continued sanctity
of our local, state and federal elections. I urge our
Republican legislators to continue to fight for election
security, and I urge those who oppose House Bill 1706 to
listen to the people and protect our votes.
