How To Grow The Republican Party Of Bexar County |
By Steve
SalyerNovember 7, 2006
could be a turning point for the Republican Party of Bexar County,
if the party leadership understands the message voters sent them on
November 7th. The Republican Party is supposed to be the party of
family and pro-life Christian values.
The George Antuna (R), Joe
Farias (D), James Thompson (L) race for Texas House District 118 is
a good example of how voters felt on November 7th. Farias 48.2%,
Antuna 44.3% and the Libertarian candidate Thompson 7.5%! The
Libertarian vote was not a vote for the Libertarian candidate, but a
vote AGAINST the Republican candidate. Independents did not want to
vote FOR Antuna because of his campaign tactics, but they didn’t
want to vote for a Democrat either, so they voted for the
Libertarian candidate. This cloud might have a silver lining if the
Republican leadership heeds this message from the voters.
The Democrats did not WIN the
races in Bexar County on November 7th, the Republicans LOST the
races!
Republicans wanted to
“take-out” one of their own. There is a no better example of
Republican and independent voter anger than in the Bexar County
judge races. Look at the 7 District Court races. Five of the
contested races went to Democrats. Janet Littlejohn only won by
50.5% and Michael Peden only won by 52%. Of the 6 contested County
Courts at Law races only one went to Republican Timothy Johnson and
he only won by 50.7%.
Bexar County has 10 State
Representative Districts. We have 2 elected Republican State
Representatives (Corte & Strauss). We have 4 State Senate districts
in Bexar County. We only have one Republican State Senator
(Wentworth). There are 5 seats on the Bexar County Commissioners
Court; there is only one Republican on the court (Larson). There are
10 seats on the San Antonio City council; there is only one
Republican (Wolf). There are 4 congressional districts represented
in Bexar County now currently they held by two Democrats and two
Republicans. Why? The answers are the lack of inclusiveness and the
lack of a “grassroots” Republican machine.
There are 622 precincts in
Bexar County. Everyone keeps saying how unorganized and how in
disarray the Democratic Party of Bexar County is. But the Bexar
County Democratic Party has almost 600 precinct chairs! These
Democratic precinct chairs block-walk, make telephone calls and work
the polls on Election Day, they know who the voters are in
their precincts. The Republican Party has less than 100 precinct
chairs. Over half of the Republican precinct chairs are
“non-working” chairs. They are chairs in name only. The Bexar County
Democratic Party has an organization and committed ground troops.
Democrats beat Republicans on Election Day.
So what are the problems and
what are the solutions? First, let me say, there are some
tremendously dedicated and hardworking Republicans like Mike
Hoffman, who are always there for any candidate no matter what, a
true precinct chair through thick and thin. The county chairmanship
is a thankless, unpaid job, which gets blamed for every loss and
gets no credit for any win. Having run and lost in 2004 and 2006, I
can tell you anyone who runs for anything has my admiration, and
should have yours, for the time taken away from their family,
friends and profession to take a chance at a 50-50 probability of
actually winning.
The current Republican Party
culture and leadership believes all Republican activism begins and
ends in the “09” zip code. I have been told by one of the Republican
Party elders that no Republican can win south of highway 90. Henry
Bonilla better hope he is wrong! With that attitude, no one ever
will win! The Republican Party leadership hates anyone that
challenges their status quo and their very small circle of power.
The current party leadership has run off more good people and voters
than they have attracted.
So what are the solutions to
rebuilding the Bexar County Republican Party? First there must be a
plan. Even the Soviet Union had a 5-year plan. We need a plan for
party re-building, candidate recruitment, finances and a winner
take all plan for 2008. This plan should have been executed on
November 8th.
1.) There must be a cultural
change with headquarters and the party leadership. Steve Salyer, Joe
Solis, Tim Weste and others are not the enemy! Those who
disagree are not personally attacking the leadership, they are
expressing an opinion. I thought we were all on the same team.
Teammates will disagree. The attitude of the party leadership has
run off good candidates, donors and campaign workers. Without a
cultural change that incubuses minorities and those outside of the
“09” zip code, the 2008 losses will be worse than 2006.
2.) The Republican Party has to
be inclusive. We have to actively seek out African-Americans,
Hispanics, Asians and other minorities. Bexar County is a minority-
majority county! There has to be a plan to bring more folks into the
Republican Party. The plan has to include the demographics of those
who live in Bexar County. What are their values, what do they want
from the Republican Party to call themselves Republican? Where to
start? Start in the churches and clubs in Bexar County. Where do you
think COPS and METRO Alliance started? There must be a dedicated,
paid staff member, a Director of Party Volunteers, whose job is to
go out in the community and recruit volunteers and party members.
Volunteers are not going to come to the party headquarters;
we have to seek them out. There must be a volunteer database that is
usable.
3.) Everything costs money. We
need a plan for a constant stream of revenue. There were 21,017
Republican Primary votes cast in Bexar County on March 7, 2006. The
party should start an “Elephant Club.” Along with the volunteer
database, a database of monthly donors should be developed. Monthly
$5.00 a month deductions from your checking account or charged to
your credit card automatically would be a good start. Do the math.
If we can get just 10,000 five-dollar-a-month donors, that is
$50,000 a month or an annual revenue of $600,000.This will do two
things. First it will create a steady stream of revenue, but it will
also give donors a feeling that “they” are part of the Republican
victories. This money should be used to “Get-Out-The-VOTE (GOTV).”
There should be a fulltime paid Director of Party Revenue who along
with the Director of Volunteers go out into the community and
recruit volunteers and members to the “Elephant Club.”
4.) The party has to come into
the electronic age. It needs computers and software databases to
maintain volunteer, donor and voter lists. There should be a monthly
internet newsletter from the Bexar GOP headquarters. It should be
informative with true facts about party candidates, club meeting
information and editorials on Republican issues. During election
time this newsletter should be a weekly to daily newsletter. There
should be a full-time Director of Communications. It is not an
impossible goal to have a database of 100,000 e-mails.
Republicans are good, kind,
honest and gentle people. Many of our candidates and elected
officials have forgotten why we were in power for 12 years in
Washington and why we control houses, the Supreme Court and all 28
statewide offices in Texas. It is because Republicans work hard,
believe in what they are doing because it is right, and are tolerant
and inclusive. It’s not about who got the big donors, lobbyist money
or who has the power; it is about having the right set of moral
values and the correct answers on issues.
The Bexar County Republican
Party leadership needs to look at the defeats of November 7th as an
opportunity not a defeat. If they do not, 2008 losses will be worse
than the 2006. Understand that winning 2008 begins now. Republicans
again need that old-time “fire-in-the-belly” type of motivation. The
current leadership needs to lead or get out of the way and let
someone else lead the party onward to 2008.

"We Want Government OFF
Our Back!" By Esteban Erik Stipnieks |
Dear Joe,
I am glad I am not
the only disheartened conservative. I consider myself an independent
who from time to time tries to work within the system. I was happy
with the Republican Revolution but as my letter stated I am not just
upset. I am glad I am not the only one. I enjoyed your comments
about the toll roads. You in many ways are the voice of the base of
the party, the average working man who would rather not take a
handout but would give his hand to those who are in need. We want
government off our back! We want a strong national defense, secure
borders and by golly we want thieves behind bars and capital
murderers six feet under. I read your newsletter and in many ways it
has that voice.
Sincerely,
Esteban Erik

Cornyn Elected To Senate Republican Leadership Team |
Wednesday, November 15, 2006
WASHINGTON—On Capitol Hill today, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas)
was elected unanimously by his fellow Republican Senators to the
position of Vice Chairman of the Republican Conference, the
fifth-highest Republican leadership position in the United States
Senate. He succeeds his fellow U.S. Senator from Texas, Kay Bailey
Hutchison, who was elected to the fourth-highest leadership position
as Chair of the Republican Policy Committee.
“I’m honored by the trust and confidence that my colleagues have
placed in me to serve as a member of the Senate Republican
leadership team,” Sen. Cornyn said. “This position gives me a place
at the table as we address the critical issues facing Texas and
America.”
Sen. Cornyn continued: “There are many important issues facing our
state and nation as we move forward with our positive agenda,
including keeping America safe in the war on terror, reducing
spending, securing our borders, improving access to quality health
care, continuing to expand job opportunities, and protecting the
most vulnerable in our society. Since my first days in the Senate,
I’ve worked to bring Texas values to Washington and I’ll continue
working hard to achieve these goals.”
U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell, who currently serves as Senate Majority
Whip and was elected this morning as Senate Republican Leader, said,
“In the four years that John has been in the Senate, he has
established himself as a tireless advocate for his constituents and
a principled leader who has earned the trust and respect of his
fellow Senators. As a member of the Senate leadership, he will play
an increasingly important role in Republican-led efforts to grow the
economy, help working families, and provide the brave men and women
in our military with the resources they need to win the war on
terror.”
Sen. Cornyn serves on five Senate committees: Armed Services,
Judiciary, Budget, Small Business and Entrepreneurship, and Joint
Economic. He chairs the Judiciary Committee’s subcommittee on
Immigration, Border Security and Citizenship and the Armed Services
Committee’s subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Capabilities.
Sen. Cornyn has served for the past three years as a member of the
Senate Whip team after being selected by leadership just one year
after his election to the Senate. As Deputy Whip he has helped
mobilize votes and support from Senate colleagues on major issues.
In addition to his legislative committees, Sen. Cornyn is the
chairman of the Senate India Caucus, vice chairman of the Senate
Republican Conference Task Force on Hispanic Affairs, vice chairman
of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus, and a member of the Senate
Republican High Tech Task Force, Congressional Oversight Group on
Trade, and the President’s Export Council.
While in the Senate, Cornyn has received various awards and
recognitions, including the 2005 Border Texan of the Year Award, the
National Child Support Enforcement Association’s Children’s Champion
Award, the American Farm Bureau Federation’s Friend of Farm Bureau
Award, the Texas Association of Business’s (TAB) Fighter for Free
Enterprise Award, the National Federation of Independent Business’s
(NFIB) Guardian of Small Business Award,; the National Coalition of
Latino Clergy and Christian Leader’s (CONLAMIC) Latino Leadership
Award, and the Texas Association of Mexican American Chambers of
Commerce’s (TAMACC) International Leadership Legislative Award among
others.

Texas State House
Speaker Tom Craddick Biography |
Tom Craddick's rise to the
Speaker's seat parallels the growth of the Republican Party in
Texas. On January 11, 2003 he made state history when, subsequent to
his 34-year tenure in the Texas House of Representatives, he became
the first Republican Speaker-after helping gain the Republican
Majority in the House-for the first time in more than 130 years.
Craddick's leadership gave the
78th Legislature, which began as one of the most challenging in
history, much of its impetus for success. Although his first session
as speaker was marked by an unprecedented $10 billion budget
deficit, Craddick helped the state overcome the budget shortfall
while producing model ethics, insurance, tort and transportation
reforms. Given his successes in these arenas, Craddick was
overwhelmingly re-elected Speaker in 2005.
Craddick's political journey
has been one of determination, perseverance and bravery. When he was
a Ph.D. candidate at Texas Tech University, he decided to seek
office in the Texas House of Representatives as a Midland
Republican. Given the environment at that time, even his father
warned him against it. "Texas is run by Democrats," the Midland
businessman, R.F. Craddick told him. "You can't win." But the
younger Craddick proved him wrong, and at the age of 25, he became
one of only nine Republicans in the 150-seat House.
Tom Craddick has spent his
adult life serving his fellow citizens in the Texas House of
Representatives. His tenure has been characterized by landmark
events. His initial years at the Capitol were focused on
revitalizing the Texas GOP, but in 1971 he gained respect from both
sides when he joined a bipartisan group of reformists dubbed "The
Dirty 30" that was pushing for changes in House Ethics. In 1975,
Speaker Bill Clayton appointed Craddick as the first Republican
committee chairman in 100 years, and he continued to hold
chairmanships under Clayton's successors, Gib Lewis and Pete Laney.
Since his election as Speaker, Craddick has demonstrated an
appreciation for diversity and bipartisanship by appointing a record
number of women and minorities -- including 12 Democrats -- as
chairmen.
Throughout Craddick's time in
the House, the Republican Party has been on the rise. In the early
1980's, Republicans began winning statewide and local elections with
more regularity. Once the movement began, it mushroomed, and by the
end of the 20th Century, Republicans held 29 of 29 statewide offices
and controlled a majority of the Senate. In 2002, after a long
awaited journey, the Republican Party was finally able to celebrate
its long-awaited success when Republicans captured 88 of 150 House
seats, ensuring Craddick's Speakership.
Speaker Craddick is also a
successful businessman. He is a sales representative for Mustang
Mud, an oilfield supply company, owns Craddick Properties, a Midland
investment business, and is president of Craddick, Inc.
Craddick holds both a Bachelor
of Business Administration and a Master of Business Administration
from Texas Tech University. In 1995, his alma mater honored him with
a prestigious Distinguished Alumni Award. He is also an Eagle Scout
who has held numerous civic posts in his hometown of Midland.
Craddick married the former
Nadine Nayfa, a native of Sweetwater, in 1969. They have two
children, Christi and Thomas Russell, Jr. Their son, Tommy, married
the former Laura Parker in 2004.

Protecting Children On The Internet |
By:
Congressman Lamar Smith
The Internet puts
the world at our fingertips. From online banking to an online
encyclopedia, information on the World Wide Web makes our lives
easier and more enjoyable. So it is no surprise that over 66 percent
of homes in America today have Internet access.
As with all technology, the benefit comes with a risk. Plugging your
home computer into the Internet is the equivalent of opening your
front door and inviting the rest of world inside. When you let in
the good, you also risk letting in the bad.
This gateway poses a particular risk to children. Left unsupervised,
children surfing the Web are easily exposed to objectionable content
and even pedophiles.
Recognizing this threat, Congress passed legislation in the 1990s
that made soliciting sex from minors over the Internet a federal
offense. The bill also created new criminal penalties for
Internet-based child pornography. For the first time, laws
protecting children from sexual predators were applied to the online
world.
Federal child protection laws were strengthened in 2003 with the
passage of the “Prosecutorial Remedies and Other Tools to End the
Exploitation of Children Today Act,” or “PROTECT Act." The bill
established the AMBER Alert system and authorized supervised release
for certain convicted sex offenders once they leave prison. It also
required life sentences for child predators convicted of a repeat
offense.
As technology evolves, so have the tactics of child predators.
Today, child pornographers are hiding their illegal content in
encrypted messages to evade detection by law enforcement. A bill
passed by Congress last June, called the “Adam Walsh Child
Protection and Safety Act,” gives law enforcement new tools to find
and prosecute these criminals. The bill also requires longer
registration periods for sex offenders.
Armed with new laws, police and prosecutors are aggressively
pursuing child predators. The Department of Homeland Security and
the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement launched Operation
Predator in 2003. The operation pools national, international and
local law enforcement resources to track pedophiles over the
Internet.
Since its creation three years ago, Operation Predator has resulted
in over 8,000 arrests. The program has uncovered large-scale child
pornography rings that profited from exploitation of children
worldwide.
The Internet can be a dangerous place for children. But you can
protect them if you are armed with the right information and tools.
Talk to them about which websites they visit and create expectations
that you will be monitoring their Internet activity. Make sure your
home computer is in a high-traffic area of your home. By putting the
computer in the kitchen as opposed to their bedroom, you can more
easily monitor what they are viewing and deter them from visiting
inappropriate sites.
A number of available software tools automatically block
objectionable content and allow you to regulate which sites they
visit.
Additional information about child Internet safety is available
through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
There are separate sections of their website dedicated to helping
parents and teachers understand what steps to take and how to warn
children about sexually explicit content.
There is even an interactive site for teens and children called
NetSmart that helps make them aware of the dangers on the Internet
and prevent victimization. All of these tools are available
by clicking here.

Teacher Merit Pay:
Context Is Critical |

By John Merrifield,
Professor of Economics
Director, Entrepreneurial Conservatism Institute
November 20th, 2006
Everyone should be paid
according to merit, but achieving that result can cost more than it
is worth. Few people recognize that the effects of a merit pay
policy are likely to depend substantially on whether the government
measures and rewards merit, or whether market forces define and
reward merit.
Consider the example of teacher
merit pay. Assume for the moment that teacher union opposition to
merit pay is not an issue. Since the funds to pay merit raises come
from a budget line appropriation, improved teaching does not
increase the funds to pay merit raises. There is a finite pool of
money to grant merit raises. Granting merit raises is a zero sum
game; more for some teachers means less for others. That discourages
co-operation. Helping another teacher reduces the probability of
getting a merit raise. That’s a reason why the typical [rare] public
school merit policy assesses school, rather than teacher, merit; to
avoid pitting teachers against each other. But that loses the virtue
of rewarding individual merit.
The other major problem with
public school teacher merit pay is the narrow, test score basis for
assessing merit, for individual teachers or entire schools. That
narrows teacher focus to tested items (short-changing subjects not
tested and teaching tests), and tempts cheaters to commit fraud.
Private sector merit pay lacks
the inherent handicaps of public sector merit pay. Private sector
merit is self-funding. It attracts additional customers. It is not a
zero sum game, and it is self-enforcing. Businesses that fail to
recognize merit ($$) lose their best employees to competing
businesses. Customers do not narrow their assessment of private
schools to test scores. They subjectively take account of the full
range of services schools can provide. Click the link at the end of
this piece to read more about the important differences between
bottom-up subjective accountability to customers and narrow,
objective, top-down accountability to government officials.
Because incentives matter, we
need merit pay. The most effective teachers deserve the highest
salaries. But true public school merit pay would create many
perverse incentives, or water down the connection between merit and
increased pay. This is another key reason why we desperately need
the entrepreneurial leadership necessary to enact the school choice
programs that can level the playing field between public and private
schools. Market forces would compel the private schools to do
teacher merit pay right, and public schools would have to follow.

Communicating With
Elected Officials By SouthTexasRepublicans.com |
Tips On Telephoning Your
Elected Representatives
To find your senators' and representative's phone numbers, you may
use our searchable
online congressional directory or call the U.S. Capitol
Switchboard at (202)224-3121 and ask for your senators' and/or
representative's office.
Remember that telephone calls
are usually taken by a staff member, not the member of Congress. Ask
to speak with the aide who handles the issue about which you wish to
comment.
After identifying yourself,
tell the aide you would like to leave a brief message, such as:
"Please tell Senator/Representative (Name) that I support/oppose
(S.___/H.R.___)."
You will also want to state
reasons for your support or opposition to the bill. Ask for your
senators' or representative's position on the bill. You may also
request a written response to your telephone call.
Tips On Writing Congress
The letter is the most popular choice of communication with a
congressional office. If you decide to write a letter, this list of
helpful suggestions will improve the effectiveness of the letter:
1.) Your purpose for writing
should be stated in the first paragraph of the letter. If your
letter pertains to a specific piece of legislation, identify it
accordingly, e.g., House bill: H. R. ____, Senate bill: S.____.
2.) Be courteous, to the point,
and include key information, using examples to support your
position.
3.) Address only one issue in
each letter; and, if possible, keep the letter to one page.
Addressing Correspondence:
To a Senator:
The Honorable (full name)
__(Rm.#)__(name of)Senate Office Building
United States Senate
Washington, DC 20510
Dear Senator:
To a Representative:
The Honorable (full name)
__(Rm.#)__(name of)House Office Building
United States House of Representatives
Washington, DC 20515
Dear Representative:
Note: When
writing to the Chair of a Committee or the Speaker of the House, it
is proper to address them as:
Dear Mr. Chairman or Madam
Chairwoman:
or Dear Mr. Speaker:
Tips On E-mailing Congress
Generally, the same guidelines apply as with writing letters to
Congress. You may find and e-mail your senators and representative
directly from this Web site.

Legislators Want
Accountability, To Reform Transportation Agencies And Policies |

First,
consider this…
From the Lone Star
Report, November 13 edition
Toll roads were a
non-starter on Election Day
Mike Krusee
(R-Round Rock) gets only 50 percent of the vote in a solidly
Republican district? And his Democratic opponent is within five
percent? This is but one example of the unpopularity of the state’s
current transportation policies.
Most successful
candidates ran as fast and as far as they could from the governor’s
policy of making almost all new freeways toll roads.
The Trans-Texas Corridor also did not play well on Election Day for
a variety of reasons.
The Legislature will
likely revisit this issue, which could put lawmakers on a collision
course with Gov. Rick Perry.
It remains to be
seen exactly what changes to current policy will gather steam at the
Capitol. But transportation will be an issue in the spring.
What are legislators
already proposing?
Rep. Joe Pickett of
El Paso is proposing to dismantle the unaccountable bureaucracy
doing the bidding of the highway lobby known as the Transportation
Commission and replace it with an
elected Transportation
Commissioner.
There’s also interest in bills that would require RMA Board members
and MPO Board members to be elected and hence directly accountable
to the TAXPAYERS. There’s already an eminent domain reform bill
(since last summer’s had more holes than Swiss cheese) and there
will be others addressing the detested Trans Texas Corridor. These
and many other reforms are needed to return to fiscally responsible,
responsive transportation policies.
No longer will
Texans tolerate our legislators and Governor IGNORING them on
kitchen table issues like transportation and freedom of mobility. If
the government hands over our limited public assets to foreign
private interests for commercial gain in monopolistic sweetheart
deals that can control where we go and IF we can go by holding us
financially hostage, especially in light of this push for a North
American Union (Rep. Ron Paul on the NAU:
http://satollparty.com/post/?p=442), over the loud and
persistent outcry of the citizens, then we the PEOPLE can and must
rein in such unbridled, unresponsive government and return
government to its rightful owners…WE THE PEOPLE!
Trans Texas Corridor
and NAFTA Highways all about
China
Why are we doing
business with our enemies?
Given the fact that
Communist China was stalking our military ships off the coast of
Japan just days ago, and that China is systematically supplying our
terrorist enemies with weapons, and considering China is creating an
oil alliance with our enemies around the world (i.e. Hugo Chavez,
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and hostile governments in Africa) to the
detriment of America, no one can give a rational explanation for the
course Bush and his cohorts are charting for this country.

"The Republicrat" (A
Moderate Viewpoint) |
|
This is a series by an
anonymous political insider in Bexar County. The views of this
author do not represent the views of South Texas Republicans.
It appears things
are heating up already on the Southside in anticipation of the
runoff between Ciro the Zero vs. Henry the “Horrible!” Since on
numerous occasions, I have heard that Republicans and disaffected
Democrats refer to Ciro as “Zero,” let us be fair in the
name-calling and list the battle as Zero vs. Horrible. We
must offer equal time to trash both candidates.
Word out of the
Southside is that Zero’s camp is anxiously waiting to learn if the
Democratic National Committee will cough up some funds so Zero can
purchase TV ads to compete with Horrible on the airwaves.
First political
rule of thumb is if there is no money, there is no race. Everyone is
also waiting to see if a national Democratic figure will visit Bexar
County to help the campaign raise money.
Apparently,
numerous local Democrats believe that the Texas Democratic Party
refuses to help with the excuse that they have no money in the
account. They didn’t help Chris Bell, Barbara Radnofsky or any of
the other statewide candidates and no one really expects them to
help in the runoff.
Other rumors are
surfacing that there is dissention in the ranks of the staff working
for Zero. Cat fighting and backbiting seems to be the flavor of the
day. This is déjà vu all over again as the same complaints in Zero’s
run for the 28th against Henry Cuellar were widespread.
It appears that
everyone is a chief and there is a shortage of Indians to do the
real work. Everyone seems to have a political strategy that will win
the race for Zero, but there is no consensus on what to do.
Complaints about Zero’s wife micromanaging the campaign are
apparently causing some supporters to re-think whether they want to
volunteer for Zero’s campaign.
Some supporters
want Zero to just appeal to his base on the Southside and others
want him to go into the northern parts of the district and appeal to
the Anglo conservatives. Some Democrats accuse Zero of sounding and
acting too much like the stereotype Chicano and ignoring the rest of
the district. I overheard one party activist say the other day that
Zero didn’t act “white enough,” to appeal to the Northsiders. That
is an ugly thing to say, especially since a Hispanic said it.
Racism of sorts
is rearing its ugly head within the party. In fact, a friend of mine
who is a precinct chair attended the local precinct chair meeting
last week and she told me that Rachel Van Os, wife of defeated
Attorney General Candidate spoke to the meeting. My friend says
Rachel said outright that racism was rampant in the party and that
Democrats were hypocrites calling Republicans racist.
Rachel is
Hispanic and her husband isn’t Hispanic.
Then my friend
told me that David Van Os went on a 10-minute tirade in front of the
crowd about the Texas Democratic Party refusing to help Democratic
Statewide candidates during this last election. He railed and
accused the Party leaders of funneling money to candidates in other
states, rather than keep the money here for local candidates.
That complaint
has been around for years. The good ole boys of East Texas control
the statewide party. The Democratic good ole boys, talk and look
like the good ole boys of the Republican Party.
Based on all the
turmoil that the Democratic Party of Bexar County and the state
party are experiencing, it is a wonder than any Democrats won their
races in this election.
While the local
Party leaders are patting themselves on the back for winning some
district court seats, most Democratic candidates are disgusted with
the local party because they complain that the party didn’t do a
thing to help them, unless they gave them money.
Many candidates
tell me that they worked their own campaigns with their own staff
and without any help from the Party. I confess I only worked one
campaign and didn’t do that much but answer phones.
On the other side
of the coin, Horrible is not exactly a pillar of virtue. Described
as arrogant, pompous and self-serving, he is not socially friendly
unless there is money involved. Suddenly he seems to be more
visible in the community with the common folk that normal.
Coincidence? We have to assume he will run those ads that say he
hasn’t forgotten the Southside again. Puke!
In his case, he
does act as if he is a white conservative and tends to shun the
Latino establishment unless they, as we say in the Southside, are
reverse coconuts like him.
Allegations of
Horrible’s corruption are rampant in the Southside. His voting
record for the war is public. What many people don’t realize is the
documentation that is spreading around that highlights the amount of
stock he owns with companies profiteering from the war. That
information has been out there for a long time, but no one to this
point, except a guy named Larry Romo, has even mentioned it.
This race is
going to be brutal before it is over. You heard it here first. It
will degenerate very soon. There is too much on the line for it not
to be. Only time will tell.
That is the moderate viewpoint. I AM the "Republicrat".
